Many translators also obtain certification to demonstrate their experience and skill. However, the typical entry-level educational attainment is a bachelor’s degree, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). You don’t need any specific experience to set out on what can become a long and profitable career as a translator. We’ll dive into all this and more below to answer the question on every aspiring translator’s mind: What kind of translator salary can I expect? How Much Do Certified Translators Make? While many of the varieties of spoken Chinese are referred to as “dialects,” few of them are unique enough to be regarded languages in their own right. (It is sometimes referred to as Standard Chinese or Putonghua.) This does not, however, mean that Mandarin is the only language spoken in China. Mandarin is the official language of China. The language is spoken by one out of every five people on the earth. Chinese is the native language of about 800 million people.

Peel off the adhesive and fix it to the sensor.Clean the area where you'll install the sensor. To mount the detector using the adhesive: You can install the detector using either the adhesive tape or the mounting bracket included in your kit. This will keep it out of the way of kids, pets, and other things that might dislodge it. You should install the Ring Motion Detector on a wall or in a corner about seven feet high. When no motion is detected for four minutes, the sensor returns to normal. If something walks in front of the motion detectors lens, it will become faulted. The Ring Motion Detector watches for motion in an area. Motion Sensors: Frequently Asked Questions Battery Level: If an Alarm device reports battery levels, the battery status will be shown in the top right. This varies by Alarm device, but usually indicates that the cover is off or that someone has been tinkering with the device. If the system is armed and the Alarm device is being monitored, this will trigger the alarm. A door or window has been opened and triggered a sensor or a motion detector has detected motion. This means that an Alarm device has been tripped. For contact sensors, they're currently shut and lined up properly. For motion detectors, they're not detecting any motion. When an Alarm device is "cleared" it means that the device is working fine and is in its default state. Device State: The current state of the Alarm device is shown in the bar at the top of the page and the icon at the top left corner of the device icon or image.Take note of the current state of the device along with its battery level: If you need to know the status of a particular Alarm device, the device details page in your Ring app contains the current state, controls, history, and (if applicable) the battery level of a particular Alarm device. If you experience any issues removing an Alarm device, you should check the device manufacturer’s instructions to see if there’s anything else you need to do. Choose a range of propellers to perform a water test. Once you know the operating range, consult the propeller guide for your engine to pick a combination of pitch, blade number, and material. Refer to your engine operating manual for the operating range. This operating range will translate to the highest horsepower available from your outboard. Choose a propeller that puts the engine RPM at the midpoint or higher of the wide open throttle (WOT) range with a normal load. The propeller choice directly affects the engine RPM and therefore its performance. If you will be using the boat for multiple applications, you may need to switch props. Consider your average speed, load, and boating location. How to Choose the Correct Pitch and Blade Countīefore you dive into choosing a propeller, understand your boat’s intended use. Stainless steel props will outlast aluminum multiple times over. Stainless steel propellers offer better acceleration and are less likely to be damaged from striking objects in the water. Stainless steel is five times stronger than aluminum, dramatically improving performance and durability. Aluminum props are a great balance of cost, performance, and durability. Five blade propellers are good for rough water conditions and tow sports.įinally, material is an important consideration for your propeller. A four blade propeller will improve handling and control for high-performance applications. Some manufacturers also create four and five blade propellers to increase acceleration and reduce ventilation. Three blades props provide the best combination of performance, speed, and efficiency. That’s why three blade propellers are the most common for general purpose boating. However fewer blades will also increase the "vibration" you will feel. The fewer number of blades a propeller has, the more efficient it is. Disturbances cause water bubbles to boil and burst against the blades, which damages the surface and reduces performance. Cavitation is caused by water flow disturbances around the blades. The anti-ventilation plate mounted on the outboard helps to prevent this problem. Ventilation increases RPM but reduces speed, especially during hard acceleration. Ventilation is when air is drawn around the blades between the blade surface and the water. If the cup is on the trailing edge, it effectively increases the pitch size, and the propeller will create more power at the cost of engine speed.īlades are also designed to prevent ventilation and cavitation. If the cup is on the tip of the blade, the blade has an increased rake angle and a higher bow lift. The cup creates more space between the sides of the blades, reducing ventilation and slippage. Some propellers are cupped, which means they have a lip on the edge of the blades. Too much rake, however, will strain the engine and reduce overall performance. High rake propellers are ideal for light-weight, high speed boats. The rake angle determines how much the bow lifts out of the water. Props have between 0 and 20 degrees rake. The rake angle can be flat, staying the same along the entire blade, or progressive, meaning the angle increases as it approaches the tip. Rake is the angle between the blade and the hub. Going under the range will cause the boat to lug, while going over can cause engine strain.īlades have other important features built into their design. When choosing a propeller, choose a pitch that will keep the engine RPM in its recommended operating range. A higher pitched prop allows the boat to move faster by travelling a farther distance with each rotation. A lower pitched propeller will create more power due to more engine RPMs, but the boat will move slower. Pitch is the distance the propeller will move the boat after one revolution (not accounting for slip). Your prop selection will be focused on the pitch. Diameter is predetermined by the manufacturer for a family of products. A large diameter propeller can push more water than a small diameter propeller, creating more power. Diameter is the overall size of the blade as measured from the tips. Those numbers are the diameter and pitch. All props will be described by two numbers, such as 13 x 21. Here's an old post with a screen grab of my older, 24-output setup, showing how the Auxes for stem sub masters and individual per-stem reverbs and delays are set up. But if you plan wisely you might only need 8-16 stereo stems or even less. Pro Tools non HD has an input limit of 32 channels. Otherwise there are plenty of well tested solutions available like adat/madi/analog etc. You can also use this approach to set up sample playback computers to stream samples in realtime without VEP plugin in daws. Pretty revolutionary if you don't need to involve output gear and don't need separate multi channel audio interfaces on all computers. You can add as many computers via network as needed and stream audio between them. In your composing daw route tracks or aux tracks to DVS channels and on your stem DAW set the inputs of tracks or aux tracks to DVS channels. Open the DAW on the stem recording mac and set its input audio interface to that newly created aggregate device. Set its output to the new aggregate device. On your composing Mac open your DAW like Logic. (put the audio interface monitoring outputs first, followed by DVS)Īlso in AudioMidi setup create network midi devices to send and receive midi between both computers if you need. 32x32, open AudioMidi Setup and create a new aggregate device with your audio interface and DVS on each system. On both Macs start DVS, set its audio channel count to a number of choice i.e. Install DVS and if needed Dante Controller on both systems. You could purchase a copy of Dante Virtual Soundcard (download the trial first to see how it works!). You could also print from logic on one mac to logic on another mac.Īnyways. So you own pro Tools already? Does it need to be pro tools? Do you have a multi channel audio interface on both macs? Most people use pro tools to be compatible with their surroundings like scoring and mixing stages. Now I'm using a MOTU 112d on Logic and an Avid MADI interface on the PT machine so I have up to 64 channels going across, but the principle is the same. This is from my older rig, where I used 24 channels of ADAT outs from Logic to get to my old ProTools HD3 rig. Still, the old way has worked for 20+ years so why change? I don't use MIDI timecode from PT to Logic, but I probably could. I send actual LTC timecode on an XLR mic cable from the Avid Sync HD peripheral to the timecode input on a Unitor midi interface and Logic locks up in less than a second. I only run Protools when actually printing, and only hit play in Protools when I need to hear the end of one cue playing from PT while it overlaps with the beginning of the next cue that I'm working on in Logic. I only fire up ProTools when it's time to begin printing mixes. This way I don't need to have ProTools running and in input monitoring mode just to hear sound. So basically, each Bus/Aux goes to a hardware output in order to get it over to ProTools, and ALSO they all combine via sends to create a composite mix right inside Logic - it's this composite mix that goes to my speakers. (All of my busses and Auxes are in groups of six because I'm in surround). Sends on those Aux objects are set to unity gain and route to busses 1-6 these represent the composite mix. Then I have a bunch of Aux objects whose inputs are those busses, and whose outputs are hardware outs 7 through 48. This solution is fast, elegant, and means I don't have to import movies into Logic.įor printing over to ProTools, each instrument or audio track in Logic gets routed to a bus - each bus represents a stem. I believe it will also slave to MMC commands so that you can scrub and single-frame in Logic and VideoSlave will scrub alongside, but I've never needed this so I can't confirm. It receives MTC over Apple's Network MIDI and locks up in less than a second - basically instantly. I host the video on a third machine, a 2012 Mac Mini with i7 and internal SSD, running VideoSlave software from non-lethal-applications. You can also host the video on a standalone software. One thing that drove me crazy was that the start stop of the slave DAW was slow. Its pretty easy in terms of setting it up once you have the hardware. in pro tools you select the input to be 3-4 and name it string stem. so in logic you group the strings output to a bus and on that bus you select the output to go to channel 3-4 of your hardware. then you have to sync the playback with mmt/mmc. I know there is dante via which is audio Ethernet but I haven't tried it yet.Īs to how to do it, you have your DAW (logic) audio hardware to have outputs being routed to the audio hardware of pro tools in another computer. M audio Lightbridge with adat ins outs worked fine but its not as many inputs as madi. Between the years 18, naturalist Charles Darwin embarked on his landmark expedition aboard the HMS Beagle. It wasn’t until conservation programs started helping to replenish their numbers. They would use the tortoises as a supply of fresh meat while they were traveling. Because of the astonishing ability of Galapagos tortoises to go for extended periods of time without consuming any food or water, it was common practice for sailors to bring live tortoises on board their vessels. Some of these tortoises weighed more than 500 pounds each. Whalers who came to the islands in the past would hunt Galapagos tortoises and then keep them alive in captivity as a source of fresh food. It wasn’t until the 1960s that whalers hunting them for fresh meat, where they reached the brink of extinction. In order for these slow dinosaurs to survive the hot, arid conditions of the islands, their back are shaped like domed shells, which helps them retain heat and water. These animals are believed to have originated between two and three million years ago from mainland South America and then traveled to the Galapagos archipelago at some point in time. Unknown Agate - An Agate (presumably a Holly Blue) is seen watching Steven's message in an unknown gem city.Yellow Diamond's Agates - Agates who reside in one of Yellow Diamond's Asteroid Mines, first mentioned by Rhodonite in "Your Mother and Mine".They were her bodyguards during the Rebellion, first mentioned by Blue Zircon in "The Trial". Pink Diamond's Agates - Agates who used to belong to Pink Diamond. They appear to serve as a form of manager for groups of other types of Quartzes, keeping them in line and ensuring that they perform their duties. So far, while other Agates have appeared, Holly Blue Agate is the only major Agate to be shown performing her role on Homeworld, where she is in charge of a group of Quartz soldiers and manages Pink Diamond's Zoo. Lace Amethyst - An Amethyst who was corrupted at the end of the war, but later healed during the events of " Change Your Mind".Īgates hold a position of authority slightly higher than other Quartzes. She emerged long after the Rebellion and joined the remaining Crystal Gems. Amethyst Facet-5 Cut-8XM - An undersized Amethyst created in the Prime Kindergarten.Quartzes that have been uncorrupted keep their horns as corruption scars. They have large, bulldog-like heads with prominently fanged underbites and a varying number of horns on their heads or where their facial features would be. Their hind limbs are relatively lean and gaunt, ending in cloven hooves like those of an ungulate. They have furry manes that extend down their backs and cover their tails, and large muscular forelimbs ending in broad forepaws that resemble hands. When corrupted, Quartz Gems take the form of giant, eyeless, wolf-like beasts with chimeric features. Decorated Quartzes, such as Jasper, can also wear capes over their uniforms, though these capes are separate appearance modifiers rather than irremovable parts of their physical forms. Some Quartzes may have patterns and bandings on their skin, resembling those of their real-life counterparts.Īll Homeworld Quartzes wear the standard Homeworld uniform, while Quartzes with a more managerial position, such as Agates, wear an additional shawl and boots. Quartzes have varied hair textures: Most of them have straight hair, but many curly-haired Quartzes exist. Quartzes have some of the longest and thickest hair of any gem, though Agates in particular tend to have their hair styled into short, neat buns to denote their rank. Their hair color is usually very pale, but darker hair is not uncommon. Their eye shapes, eye colors, noses, and jawlines vary. There is much diversity in Quartzes, even among those of the same Gem type. However, a few of these variant Quartzes are actually larger than average. Most of these Quartzes are much shorter or skinner than average, causing them to be considered "defective", though they still retain the full strength and abilities of a typical Quartz. Quartzes are much taller than the average Gem, with broad shoulders and a muscular build. Most Quartzes appear to have the same general height and build, though Quartzes with different body shapes have been known to occur, usually as a result of a poor-quality Kindergarten or an exceptionally long formation time. These types include Agates, who ranked higher than other Quartzes and seemed to be administrative in nature, and Citrines, who seemed to be guards for elite Gems (working for such high-ranking Gems as Emerald and Hessonite). Some types of Quartzes had a somewhat different role in the caste system. Quartzes are the most diverse known Gem type, with Gems including Amethysts, Carnelians, Jaspers and Rose Quartzes. According to Ian Jones-Quartey, some Quartzes are defense-oriented (similar to Rose Quartz) since "they can't all be tanks." Numerous Quartzes were made on Earth in the Prime and Beta Kindergartens. They appear to be less common than Rubies. Prior to Era 3, Quartzes were used as soldiers, guards, and escorts. While searching on Angel Island, the Warden insists that the men's personal effects were important, and the men would have drowned before leaving them behind. Shreds of raincoat material and personal effects of the men are found floating in the bay. The following morning, the escape is discovered and a manhunt ensues. The men depart from Alcatraz, partially submerged in the water, clinging to the raft and using their legs to propel themselves. They scramble down the side of the building into the prison yard, climb over a barbed-wire fence, make their way to the shoreline of the island and inflate the raft. He later changes his mind but is too late and returns to his cell to sulk over his missed opportunity.Ĭarrying the flotation gear, Morris and the Anglins access the roof and avoid the searchlights. Butts loses his nerve and fails to rendezvous with them. Morris, the Anglins and Butts plan to meet in the passageway and escape. That night, the inmates decide they are now ready to leave. Wolf is released from solitary confinement and prepares to attack Morris again, but English manages to intercept him while implying that his gang will beat up Wolf. Nonetheless, he issues orders for Morris to be relocated to a different cell as soon as possible. The Warden orders an inspection of Morris' cell but finds nothing unusual. Over the next months, Morris, the Anglins, and Butts dig through the walls of their cells with spoons (which have been soldered into makeshift shovels), make papier-mâché dummies to act as decoys, and construct a raft out of raincoats.ĭuring mealtime Morris places a chrysanthemum at the table in honour of Doc, but the Warden stops by and crushes it, causing a provoked Litmus to suffer a heart attack. Morris notices that the concrete around the grille in his cell is weak and can be chipped away, which evolves into an escape plan. Later, Morris encounters two bank robbers and brothers John and Clarence Anglin, who are his old friends from another prison sentence, and he links up with prisoner Charley Butts. Doc is depressed and in the prison workshop hacks off several fingers of his left hand with a hatchet before being led away. Enraged, the Warden removes Doc's painting privileges. The guards' paintings are flattering, recognizing their humanity, but the Warden's painting, which has been kept out of view, captures the ugliness of his cruelty. The Warden discovers that Doc has painted a portrait of him, as well as other guards. Both men are imprisoned in isolation in the hole. Morris also makes an enemy of Wolf, a rapist who harasses him in the showers and later attacks him in the prison yard with a knife. He makes a gift of one of the blossom heads to Morris. Doc's portraits contain chrysanthemums as a symbol of human spirit and freedom. Over the next days, Morris makes acquaintances with some inmates: the eccentric Litmus, who is fond of desserts English, a black inmate serving two life sentences for killing two white men in self-defense and the elderly Doc, who paints portraits and once grew chrysanthemums at Alcatraz. The day of his arrival, Morris steals a nail clipper from the Warden's desk. Alcatraz is unique within the US prison system for its high level of security, and no inmate has ever escaped. In early 1960 Frank Morris, a criminal who has absconded from other facilities, arrives at the maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island. Campbell Bruce and based on the 1962 prisoner escape from the maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island, marks the fifth and final collaboration between Siegel and Eastwood, following Coogan's Bluff (1968), Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970), The Beguiled (1971), and Dirty Harry (1971). The film, an adaptation of the 1963 non-fiction book of the same name by J.
